The Treasures of Mr I. C. Su (5)

Trees, rocks, stones or artefacts, like aged bonsai pots for example, are highly worshipped in China.

The more distinctive, gnarled or unusual the appearance of a tree, rock, stone or  in our case a bonsai pot, the more it is appreciated.

Weathering or scars tell us about old times, fugacity and recurrence.

The old pots shown here are an attestation of esteem. Little scars and chippings remind us of the impermanence of all things, wonderful melancholy.

A small, rare, glazed and painted pot from Yixing.
